MY JOURNEY
My name is Javier Sanz, and my path to becoming a family law attorney did not begin at university, but much earlier, through personal experiences that deeply shaped my personal journey.
FACING ADVERSITY FROM A YOUNG AGE
From a young age, life placed me in situations that no one should have to face. I suffered a sexual assault as a minor and was a witness to gender-based violence within my own family during adolescence, even fearing for my own physical integrity and receiving daily death threats.
The year I began Law School in Valencia was also deeply significant for me, not only because it marked the beginning of the new millennium, the year 2000, but because the year before we had suffered the loss of my father after my family had been ruined and lost all our assets, including the family home.
I remember walking through the university halls, aware that nothing would ever be the same after that experience.
Starting my university career also meant leaving behind the negative experiences I had suffered due to bullying at school.
These experiences taught me about vulnerability, justice, and resilience long before I understood them as legal concepts, and they shaped my specialization not as a choice, but as a necessity to act against lived injustices.
The struggle did not end there. Years later, I accompanied my brother through a turbulent divorce, and after his unfortunate passing, which was communicated to me while under protection due to gender-based violence, I found myself managing a visitation regime with my nephews and the family inheritance. This gave me an even deeper understanding of the complexities and pain associated with these legal and emotional processes.
